Sunday bloody Sunday

We got through the weekend and didn’t miss any games today , which was nice but the games were rather uninspiring . Green has just kept on rolling and is undefeated , Red playing well rolled over Beige , Black finally figuring out that when they run they are superb but when they take 3’s they eat the bird , Blue hurting with Judd rehurt hamstring ( oh i did tell you that there would be hamstring problems ) , Gold having a tough time keeping the energy up , Gray has not won a game , Maroon had a better day today with Ethan heating up but…

Everyone going to the playoffs on Friday – so it will be 1 vs 8 2 vs 7 3vs 6 and 4 vs 5 . Keep your eye on the schedule as Barry will post it and please don’t ask us to move the schedule around for you or anyone else . No subs in the playoffs so live with what you have and may the BEST TEAM WIN .

If your team is just going to waltz into the Playoffs without some new traps or defenses or out of bounds plays or motion offense then don’t cry when you get knocked out . Try to have a practice this week and put a few things in – it could get you that extra 4 points to win a game you might have lost .

Saturday in the Rain

We weren’t sure we’d get any games in today with the rain threatening but we got off to a good start with Beige vs Gray. Matt Manewal came to play today and we were able to see a glimpse of Xmas Past as he terrorized Gray by scoring 32 points , 19 in the first quarter . Gray is now 0-3 , why you might ask with Clay , Josh A , a big man in Chris B , shooters in LAlA and Chris Garcia plus Eastman??? If you don’t do anything different and just play the same defense and offense and don’t seem to even have an out of bounds play … how you going to win? No press , no traps no surprise is a recipe for disaster . Credit to Beige who rallied behind Matt and had some nice defense by Casey , Justin and Matt Cov and credit to Marc Millman who had the outfit of the year with every color represented -ROYGBIV .

Blue vs Gold was the game of the day for sure going down to the last second. Judd back in action , driving and scoring until … oh no .. hurt again. He came back in the last few minutes to keep his boys settled down with a 9 point lead and only 2 min to go . But Gold has some young guys that under the tutelage of Roy L did not panic and start throwing up 3’s. Instead they pressed and trapped and scored 8 unanswered , with Jarred banging the boards , Jason K driving and bringing energy and Andrew Kern and Nate Baskin providing some quick baskets after a couple of steals and forced turnovers to cut it to one with 3.4 seconds left and the ball. Lapiedus boys come up with an outstanding play but the shot comes up short and the rebound shot almost goes in and Blue runs away with a lucky win. Sorkin killed them yesterday but today was a new day and he didn’t hit double digits but he did get some big boards and stole the victory. If Gold would have trapped earlier and used it as a strategy during the game it might have been a very different story – you got the legs , use them .

Green goes marching on lead by Mr TMZ and although Black was in it for a while it didn’t last too long. Evan S is playing very well and taking good shots and hitting them . Lucas needs to move without the ball a bit more and set some picks so he can get a little man on him , Joel played outstanding today , not falling in love with the 3 and driving . Down by 14 when it started to rain late in the 3rd Q so NOW WHAT?

Games go off as scheduled tomorrow with no double headers – so 4 games and that’s it .

Next week we will figure out exactly how we want to schedule it all and let you know by Weds – hang in there – new life – everyone will go to the playoffs !

Old Timers Rule

First two games were not what we expected as Maroon looked like they were asleep until the fourth quarter . TMZ as usual but no TMH – and man it was hot out there . Green didn’t have Evan M but they did have Seth R who has filled in nicely . Zach and Steve Frenchman both contributed – mostly Zach but maybe the Lubowitz’s were out too late because they never really got going . Easy win for Green . In the 2nd game Beige lost their focus early and although Matt M was the super sub he couldn’t get them going . But the OLD FLIPPER jeff sorkin came to play and abused the youngsters . He scored 28 points , had 12 rebounds and 6 assists – that is a major day for a first rounder much less a 54 year old 4th rounder . Good to see Sam S start scoring with confidence . Blue now 1-2 but with Judd back too – look out !

The game of the day was the 3rd on with Gold and Gray battling down to last minute. The young legs of Gold prevailed with an excellent outing by Andrew Kern who went for 17 leaving the last for the best with a beauty of a drive and finish left handed at the rim . Nate Baskin scored and Jarred Annapolen was a beast on the boards , Jason Katz missed a couple of easy ones but it did not deter him from being a big plus down the stretch in a very tough game but it was Larry Bressler – you know Larry is going to have one of these games every once in a while – that’s why no matter how old he gets he’ll never retire. He hit 3 consecutive 3’s and a drive = come on now- Roy has these young guys in a good position to go far if they continue to play together

The last game was Red vs Black and Black fell behind early but made a strong comeback behind Evan Seigert’s jumpers Joel’s drives and Lucas’s post up scoring , When they get some motion in their offense and get Lucas a pick so he can take a little man underneath – this team could right itself quickly. They love the 3 a little too much as the youth of America do, but man when they drive and go down low – they are so much better and could win more games . Red played a solid game with some good offense from all the Kaufman’s including Dad Larry . KKush hit a nice side jumper and Jordan led the team to a 40-40 tie when the rain came down with the 4th quarter left to play.

What’s next ? Tomorrow looks promising weatherwise and i hope we can get our games in . Pay attention now – if we do not get 6 games in for everyone then NEXT FRIDAY we will put everyone in the playoffs and play 4 games. Sat 2 games and Sunday the Final

First game should be a doozy TMZ Green vs TMH Maroon- line Maroon -1 1/2

Second Game – Blue vs Beige – all that noise for a sub -so petty and so unsportsmanlike – Beige -3 1/2

Third Game – Gold vs Gray= Gold -3 1/2

Fourth Game – Red vs Black surprise Black -1

2nd Weekend Coming Up

Some developments that you all need to know . We are always inclusive and we have an opportunity to include two of our former great players this week as Andrew Pearlmutter is out with a cracked rib. They will each get two games and both are excited to be back in action. Matt Manewal and Eric Samulski are happy to be back in the fold and are looking to help the Beige Bombers get their first win.

Also we are adding two games on Sat and Sunday to make up for last Sundays washout so look at the new schedule please .

Have fun , keep running and if you are in the least bit sick go get a covid test – i think we survived the first weekend

Saturday

We made it through to the last few minutes without an injury but … Joel Nunez comes down the lane with 2 min to go and down 1 and runs right into Andrew Pearlmutter and cracks Pearl’s rib . It was over for Tan when that happened and although they led the entire game , Black just would not give in – Josh S was the key with a big 3 and then 2 steals , Sam T hit another big 3 . Joel hit all his foul shots and Lucas was sensational underneath. But these guys almost fell to the siren song of the 3 , which they took entirely too many , and got pretty lucky to pull it out at the end . My advice to Black and everyone else , don’t panic when you get behind and start launching 3’s and while you are at it , if you have a tough guy like Luke underneath , take one of your little guards and have him put a pick on the defender so his man has to switch off on your tough guy. Hey – i’m just sayin’.

Red won a tough contest with Royal blue – Blue read the above – Jordan got hot at one point , Weissman came back down to earth , Kevin K got some good steals , Alec Kaufman was rock solid once again . Blue needs more scoring and fortunately for them Jeff Sorkin will be back next weekend –

The Green machine was unstoppable again and rolled over Grey for a pretty easy win . Once again TMZ – someone better figure out how to stop this guy and once again Evan Maz came through with some nice hoops. Jonathan Shapero got into the scoring act too with 2 baskets – . Seth Rosner was pivotal with some 2’s and a nice block on the baseline.

Gold had momentum coming into the first game but TMH for Maroon canceled them out . I have a feeling this Gold team might make the 4th spot in the playoffs – Prove me Wrong !!!

The covid situation is real – if anyone is feeling sick in any way please let me know right away – it would be great if everyone got tested again this week – a perfect control to let us know where we stand – if no one gets sick it would be a great sign that we will be Ok the next two weekends –

Next weekends schedule will be posted by Weds – we need to decide what to do about double headers – keep your eye on the prize

Full Day and tomorrow too

Good first day of games with good sportsmanship and some good playing too ; Yellow proved to be better than expected , played a good 3-2 zone with Jason Katz going for 25 and the new guys adapting and playing together . Red played very well against Gray with Ricky Weissman hitting 3 ‘s , Jordan Levine leading the charge , Kevin K going 2 for 2 and Sanjeev getting involved too . Green was just TMZ – too much Zuri and a lot of Evan M who hit for 20 . Blue and Black need to regroup and get ready for tomorrow. Maroon was just TMH too much height with Mike , Ethan and Jordan S .

So…… tomorrows games will go as scheduled with no double headers – next week will be another story – we will contact you all if we decide to add games

1st Day Hooray

Here we go gents and lady – just Madeline this year in the lady department – looking forward to seeing Roy’s Gold team play today as he has all the new faces -Nate Baskin, Andrew Kern and the return of Jason Katz plus Jeremy Feder who is old timer Dan Feder’s son – surprised Dan is not playing – this team could end up #3 or #7 – also keen to see Black with the prodigal son Joel Nunez coming home to roost . Red is another good one with BK and Jordan and the entire Kaufman clan – Carter is bigger and stronger and Kevin Kushner is too -so they have forwards which most teams don’t – Beige has all the Schnells but i want to see how Casey does this year – he is long and lean – Sam Schwartzben is back on Royal and i believe he will do a lot of damage this year now that he has matured – That’s it for today – stay safe , be smart , don’t overdue it the first day – get the rhythm –
